The Art of
Choosing a Diamond
A diamond is easier to understand than it looks. Learn the essentials — the 4 Cs, shapes, certification and more — so you can choose with confidence and buy with clarity.
The Essentials
The 4 Cs
Cut
The most important of the four — and the most misunderstood. Cut isn't the shape, but how well a diamond's facets return light. A superb cut sparkles brilliantly; a poor one looks dull, whatever its size. We prioritize cut above all.
Color
Graded from D (truly colorless) down the alphabet, color measures how close a diamond is to pure white. Most differences are invisible to the untrained eye — so we help you find the sweet spot between beauty and value.
Clarity
Every natural diamond carries tiny inclusions formed within the earth. Clarity grades how few and how faint they are. The vast majority are invisible without magnification — a stone need not be flawless to look flawless.
Carat
Simply the weight of the diamond — not, as many assume, its size. Because cut and shape affect how large a stone appears, a well-cut diamond can look larger than a heavier, poorly cut one. Balance carat with the other three Cs.
Two Kinds of Brilliance
Natural vs. Lab-Grown
Rare by Nature
Natural Diamonds
Formed over billions of years, GIA-certified, and finite in supply. For many, that rarity and legacy is precisely the point.
- GIA Certified
- Rare & Finite
- Investment Quality
- Ethically Sourced
Brilliance, Reimagined
Lab-Grown Diamonds
Chemically identical to natural diamonds, IGI-certified, sustainable, and exceptional value — often a larger or finer stone for the same investment.
- IGI Certified
- Exceptional Value
- Sustainable Choice
- Identical Beauty
Certification
Independently Graded, Absolutely Certain
Every Jacob Jacobs diamond arrives with an independent grading report from the GIA (natural) or IGI (lab-grown) — the world's most trusted laboratories. It is your guarantee that the diamond is exactly as described, and yours to keep for insurance and provenance.
